How I Experienced the Power of Networking
In June 2018 I attended a conference for Human Performance Improvement professionals called HPRCT (Human Performance Root Cause Trending). At this conference I was presenting how an idea transformed into a large company effort for training a lot of people in Human Performance that was called "The Human Performance Film Festival." Like many conferences before and after it, there were breakout sessions where people can teach and learn in more intimate settings. Laurin Mooney (from BeHighlyReliable.com) was teaching one of these breakouts. In her classroom she had signup sheets that asked for a name, email and phone number. Before I left the room, she asked out loud whom the 860 area code person was, and it was me. We started talking, only to realize, we lived about 10 minutes apart from each other in Connecticut! We went a long way to meet someone in a similar line of work that is also in our neighborhood.
Some time ago, a guy was selling a property in Woodstock, Connecticut and needed some aerial photography performed, so he hired Anthony Chabot to do the work. Laurin wanted to have some real estate photography done on her home and Anthony was recommended by that guy. Laurin spoke with Anthony and he mentioned a podcast he was doing and asked if she would be interested - she was just interviewed and put on his podcast. During that initial conversation, Laurin mentioned that I may be interested in participating and that he should contact me, which he did.
I have been trying to start effectively hold a Mastermind group for a very long time, and Anthony has introduced me to the local Killingly Business Association, which includes a lot of local business leaders and entrepreneurs whom are just excited about small business as I am. I went to my first KBA meeting last week, and I met a gentleman that is in charge of our local college's leadership program, where they may be looking for an instructor and perhaps some program additions, so I am meeting with him later this week.
I am sharing this non-fiction networking story, to show the power in helping each other make contacts with people that may be able to help your business and talents grow. We are social beings, not destined to do this all on our own. Anthony and I are also becoming fast friends and have realized a ton of similarities in our plights to be the best at what we do and share in a similar life journey. I implore you to connect, and see where other people in your network may be better off if you connected them.
Look what Laurin did! Thank you Laurin!
