What I Learned About Human Performance

This picture is from one of the earliest training sessions I went to help James.

When I first met James in 2016, I had no idea what Human Performance Improvement and Tools were, or how they could drastically change the way everyone works, no matter what job role they have in an organization.  At first, I thought it must just be nuclear or power plants or energy or anything that I didn’t really know about. I was very wrong, and human performance tools can be used everywhere and in everyday life.

I decided to write this post, because often I get asked what it is we do?

I usually just say, "Training and consulting for companies that are looking to improve worker skills and have less errors that cause significant problems or process shut downs. "

Now many of you may ask, "So, what does that have to do with my job or business?" Well, every job could use Human Performance Tools. Here is why: everyone is human, and every human makes mistakes. So, why not give those humans the skills and tools to make less mistakes? It will only increase production and safety, no matter what the industry.

I was recently sitting at my bank and talking to one of the managers about our business account and she asked, “What do you do?” I started to explain about self and peer checking and she said, “We need this; this would help so much; we could lose accounts or get audited if someone makes a mistake, even at the data entry level!”

How we can help with this? Our human performance fundamentals training takes these tools and pedagogy and turns them into practical applications. The training sessions we have created are filled with activities to ensure learning happens and students get to experience it, rather than just be told about it. Contact us if you want to hear more!

James would probably have a different way to answer the question, but I thought it may help anyone not already versed in Human Performance terminology to hear my perspective. - Cristen
